Where to Stay in Hong Kong
The best and cheapest place to stay in Hong Kong are the hostels in Mong Kok. Spending a night here roughly costs $13 to $15 or 500 to 1,500 Pesos per person. Its always cheaper to stay in a shared room, recommended when traveling alone, or rent your own room when traveling with a group. The room gets cheaper if you are traveling in groups of 4 and more so invite friends to go with you if you really want to save.
Another good reason why we recommend staying in Mong Kok is that the shops around it don't close until late at night. In this way, you can make the most out of your day touring the country and head back to your hotel after dinner to shop all you want. Did I also mention that many international brands have an outlet store in Mong Kok? And even if their branch is not an official outlet store, its almost always sold cheaper compared to other branches in the country.
Some of our favorite outlet/discount store in Mong Kok are the following:
- Cotton On
- Esprit
- Forever 21
- Skechers
- Almost every store in Sneaker street

Being on a budget doesn't mean you need to eat instant noodles all the time just to save money. There are a lot of inexpensive restaurants, fast food chains serving authentic quality Hong Kong food and Hong Kong signature street food that you can try. Our favorite is Maxims and Cafe de Coral. Unlike the usual fast-food chain in almost every country, these two restaurants serve food fast but are cooked fresh everyday. In addition, their menu changes every day and every meal time so you can never get enough of them.Fast food in Hong Kong
Just like Mcdonalds and Jollibee, you will surely find Maxims and Cafe de Coral near every tourist spot or busy place in Hong Kong. Meals here start from 28 HKD to 60+ HKD. The only difference between the two Hong Kong restaurants is the amount of food served. Everyone in our team likes Maxims better because of the servings are bigger. If you are a light eater, you can share a meal for 2 in Maxims. If you love to eat like our team then meals in Maxims will not disappoint you.Of course, there is also 7 11 and other convenience stores in Hong Kong. Its very cheap but are made with love. Some of our favorite meals in 7 11 include Spaghetti, Beef meals, Sio Mai partnered with their one-liter Yakult-like drinks. It absolutely tastes like Yakult but with a different brand name and can be as big as one liter!
